Clan MacNicol Badge

The Clansman Crest Badge is the top portion of the Chief's Coat of Arms surrounded by a strap and buckle.  Clansman and women are authorized to own and display the MacNicol Clan badge, but the crest itself (the hawk on the wreath and motto) is the exclusive property of the Chief of Clan MacNicol. This article further explains the wear of Scottish Crest Badges.

Since the reestablishment of the Clan, there have been numerous versions of the clan badge marketed commercially with the early use of SGORRA BHREAC and SGORR-A-BHREAC used in the motto. Some of the early hawks looked more like twisted chickens than a prominent hawk.

The Clan Badge pictured here is made available by Dale Nicoll of Concord, California, USA.  The cost is $22.00 USD, plus approximately $3.70 USD for shipping in the US.  For shipping and payment outside of the US, contact Dale at his email address dale94519@yahoo.com

Dale also accepts PayPal. Go to this link and input Dale's email under the TO block.  He will also accept checks from registered Clan members.

Dale donates $1.00 from each badge sold to the Scorrybreac fund to preserve our Clan Estate at Ben Chracaig,

Tartan Material

Below are list some sites which sell MacNicol / Nicolson tartan fabric which meets the look and fiber count of our registered tartans.  Be careful when purchasing - take a look at our examples before you buy.  For example, the Modern Red colour variation has a line of sky blue that runs through it.  Many of the modern colors at web sites claim to be MacNicol / Nicolson Modern but lack this authenticating feature.  Another interesting note concerns our Ancient Hunting colour variation - the same tartan is used by the Cunninghams, although we are unsure how this came about.
