Scorrybreac Award

At the International Clan MacNicol Gathering 2012 held in Launceston, Tasmania, the inaugural Scorrybreac Award was made to Les Nicholson of Townsville, at the Gala Dinner held on Friday October 12th.  The award read in part:

Clan Chief, John MacNeacail of MacNeacail and Scorrybreac has seen fit to award you the 2012 inaugural Scorrybreac Award. 

The Scholarship is in recognition of your training and study in Scottish Country Dancing, in particular, in your efforts for the Ceilidh at the World Gathering in Launceston, plus your involvement and encouragement to youth in music through the Stokes Nicholson Big Band. Congratulations!

The Scorrybreac Award is offered annually by Clan MacNicol Australia Inc., for members and family members of Clan MacNicol in Australasia, for a sum of up to AUD$1,000.
The announcement of the award reads:

In recognition of the sponsorship of the Arts and encouragement of Performance for which Clan MacNicol is historically associated with and recognised, it is proposed that funds be made available to encourage members and especially young members and family of Clan MacNicol to continue and to develop in all things associated with Music, Dance, Piping, the Arts, Singing and Prose.

A Scholarship Fund to be called the Scorrybreac Award is to be bestowed annually on the applicant thought to be best deserving, by the Chief.

Application is to be made to the Secretary outlining the area of endeavour and expected outcomes, and reasons in support of the Award, by end of June each year. Note: the recipient may be expected to demonstrate the skills of this award at a mutually suitable occasion, perhaps the AGM.
