Several members of of Clan MacNicol have spent a great deal of time deciphering the very complex DNA picture which takes our members from Lewis to Skye and onto to locations around the world. Anne Nicholson Crocker was a pioneer for DNA research in the Clan, and started the Nicholson Project. On the front lines today are Fiona Lundy of New Zealand, who has spent years combing through the Clan projects while comparing DNA results to the timeline and events in history. Ron Nichols and Dave Nicholson of the United States have brought energy to these projects by getting MacNicol's around the world to join the projects.
Clan MacNicol has several ongoing DNA test projects. To join one of these projects, visit:
- The Clan MacNicol Group Project, under the supervision of Ron Nichols on behalf of Clan MacNicol. The Clan MacNicol DNA Project is a new effort. If you are already a member of another group, it is relatively easy to join this Clan sponsored group as well. We are interested in recruiting anyone with surname variants such as MacNicol, MacNichol(s), McNichols, Nicolson, Nicholson, Nicol, Nichol(s), Nicoll, Nicholls, Nickels, Nickells, Nickols, Nicholas, Nickell, etc. See the results of kits submitted under this project.
- The Nichols Group Project, under the supervision of Brian Hamman. Brian's project is interested in recruiting anyone with surname variants such as MacNicol, MacNichol(s), McNichols, Nicolson, Nicholson, Nicol, Nichol(s), Nicoll, Nicholls, Nickels, Nickells, Nickols, Nicholas, Nickell, etc. Take the time to view the results of the Nichols Y-Chromosome Study based on current participants who have agreed to disclose their data.
- The Nicholson Group Project, is interested in anyone with the surname MacNeacail, MacNicol, McNichol, Nicholson, Nickelson, Nickle, Nickleson, Nicolson.
