Malcolm Nicolson

Cheiftain in Clan MacNicol and Lieutenant to the Chief

Malcolm Nicolson was born in 1950 in a rural area in the Western District of Victoria. He spent his career as an Air Traffic Controller both in Sydney and Hong Kong.  In 1982, Mal and Jenny had their first child, Dean and their daughter Laura in 1988.

It was in the 1980's that Mal first became aware of a Tasmanian farmer working to re-establish himself as Chief of Clan MacNicol. Mal and Jenny joined the Clan in 1998 as it was just developing. After attending the Melbourne Gathering in 1999, he became involved with the New South Wales (NSW) Clan Committee. In 2001 Mal became President of the NSW Branch until 2007, when Clan MacNicol Australia Inc. was formed. In 2006 Mal had the honour to be appointed Lieutenant to the Clan Chief, John MacNeacail of MacNeacail and Scorrybreac, which was presented at a recognition ceremony at Glen Innes.

Mal has been the Secretary of Clan MacNicol Australia Inc, as well as a trustee of Urras Clann MhicNeacail, the group entrusted with maintaining the land owned by the Clan on the Isle of Skye. He is a coordinator for Friends of Scorrybreac Lands (FoSL), the program designed to provide money to the trustees of Urras Clann MhicNeacail to maintain the Scorrybreac lands.
