About Our Society

Clan MacNicol South Island New Zealand began in 1986 in Dunedin by Jack and Eileen Nicholson. For many years there was also a North Island group which has since closed. Since then, North Island members have joined the Dunedin-based group to become Clan MacNicol New Zealand. Membership has grown over the years and continues to increase. Get-togethers are held 3 or 4 times a year mostly over a lunch or afternoon tea.

We have strong ties to Clan MacNicol Australia and our annual subscription entitles members to a copy of the Australian magazine Southern Cross.

We hope to encourage members to maintain an interest in their Scottish heritage and along with the worldwide Clan are proud of our involvement with the Clan Lands near the town of Portree on the Isle of Skye. This is a park known as Ben Chracaig with free access to the public. We recently provided a bench seat and plaque for the Lands and hope that New Zealanders will enjoy this spectacular area and seeing a mention of their country when on the other side of the world.
